The opening of the Shannon Sweet Stop just down the street from Alvern Gardens Apartments has reminded us that we should take advantage of the last weeks of summer by supporting local businesses in the South Hills.
The Shannon Sweet Stop, located at the intersection of Willow Avenue and Castle Shannon Boulevard, serves ice cream, drinks, and baked goods. It’s a great place to stop for your morning coffee or to take the kids out for after dinner ice cream.
But the Shannon Sweet Stop is taking on some pretty stiff local competition: Scoops on Beverly claim they serve the best ice cream in the South Hills. In fact, Beverly Road is a sweet—and savory—spot for all kinds of local eats. Our readers might recall Cafe IO from our countdown of the best grilled cheese in Pittsburgh. More recently, we featured a post about the local alehouse and pizzeria, Bado’s. We said it then and we’ll say it again: their Reuben is delicious.
So if you’re looking for a place to get a full meal, or if you just want some ice cream, you’re sure to find something to your liking in the South Hills of Pittsburgh.
