Phipps Conservatory Uses Classic Holiday Song As Theme For Flower Show

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Phipps Conservatory is always a “Winter Wonderland” this time of year.

And this year, they have the perfect song to go with it.

Exhibit Coordinator Jordyn Melino and her staff matched flower displays with lines from the popular song written by Dick Smith of Honesdale, Pennsylvania, back in 1934.

“We have our ‘Parson Brown’ in the middle here, with an entire wedding procession of snowmen,” Jordyn says of one exhibit.

As the song goes, “He’ll say: are you married? We’ll say, no man, / But you can do the job when you’re in town.”

There are two dozen varieties of poinsettias, in kaleidoscopic splashes of red and yellow, and sometimes, both.

The Winter Flower Show has been extended into the Discovery Garden, where more than 65,000 LED lights draw the customary plaudits. Cones of light, seven feet tall, are also a crowd…
