PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — The National Aviary is showing off its newest exhibit – “Condor Court.”
It officially opened to the public Friday after a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The Andean Condors are on display in an exhibit set up to look like the Andes Mountains.
And these birds are impressive! They are quite large and have a 10-foot wingspan.
The new exhibit is designed to help them breed, with the hope of reintroducing them into the wild.
“One of the things we are trying to do here is to integrate our conservation field programs more with what we exhibit here at the Aviary, so we can tell the story better,” said Kurt Hundgen, the Aviary’s director of Animal Collections. “To really reach people, you have to be able to interact with them and that’s what we are trying to do here, bring a small piece of Ecuador here to the North Side…
